I wish it was in a CACG holder so I could make a stupid contrarian guess. But it's not so...

66 because of mark at 12 o’clock on reverse. If this was somehow included in the minting process, then 67 or 67+.

He has to be...if he really thought it was a CACG rub type situation, wouldn't it at least be a 58+?

How does a coin that big and that heavy not have marks? Save for the reverse marks at 12:00, I can't find any. MS67+ camp only because MS68 's are so rare (6 out of 11,000+).

If we were all the same, the world would be an incredibly boring place.

Alright, quite a few good guesses! The correct grade is below. This may be a coin I'll try reconsideration on for a +, but for now she's in the right place with me. The luster on this half is crazy!

I suppose it's a testament to the AU58 argument with CACG that we managed to have a slight discussion here. If this coin ever ends up in a 58 holder, well... that service needs to figure something out.

Excellent grade. As long as the luster fully rotates through the devices under the light, it would never be AU even at CAC and one would not expect that issue on a 67 WLH bc they are usually luster bombs.

    Just some observations/comments:

I like the coin and 67 seems reasonable. But all of us have only looked at the image and perhaps the video- and not the coin which has been captured in a stunning manner that would make Norma Desmond envious. So the opinion here is predicated on the media image and not an in hand review. And at certain levels, grading from an image is okay because at lower grades, there are expectations that can be managed and satisfied. However, it simply is not okay when we are at the... Superb Gem... 67 level. And to make matters worse, the wrench of rub that has recently been thrown back into this series is not helpful and is basically irresponsible.

The larger and more complicated issue is related to variation in the production (by date and mint), how coins are handled at the mint and in the distribution process. I thought it was well settled that some dates/mints just did not produce like quality in terms a vibrant end product. And for this reason, there really needs to be some accommodation in grading. I also thought it was well settled that the high points on certain coins, especially the WLH series, are prone to incomplete strikes which effect the pattern of lustre which can be incomplete. And that effects the tone and overall look of a coin as it ages. Rub at high points often effect more than rub at the high points- look at the fields and the overall lustre pattern for the coin.

Seems the grading discussion for the WLH series, among others, is in need of greater mutual understanding as the expectations should be based in reality and simply not shift with the wind.

Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.

I saw the grade but was going to say at a minimum ms66, if not higher.

I love the look of a superb gem in a gold shield holder with a CAC sticker. Very handsome.
    That's a keeper!
