Looks like a small piece of plastic and blowing it with compressed air may remove it.

Doesn't the mint still have these avaliable for 80$? Or am I reading their website wrong?

They are still available as of a moment ago. I passed on these as I do not collect Morgan nor Peace Dollars.

A rinse in acetone may remove that spot.

If you use e-z-est, make sure you rinse it well and pat it dry with a clean cotton undershirt.

Man, that's a proof!!! That spot looks baked into the surface. I wouldn't let ANYTHING touch the surface of that coin!!

This is probably the best course of action. Put it back in the capsule and enjoy it as it is. It's a beautiful coin.

I wouldn't even breath on the newer minted proof surfaces. I tried acetone on cheap proof coin surfaces for trial and error and sometimes the acetone leaves a slightly cloudy surface behind and can not be removed so...............DON"T mess with it.

I think you're right. I just don't think it will take much to damage or destroy that coin.

Really a beautiful coin. I don’t really know anything about dipping, etc., but I would be hard pressed to let anything touch that surface!

Oh, I thought they did a P, D, S and CC. Must be confused with a different Morgan re-issue. I don’t really keep up on modern coinage.

    On second thought!
My OP picture of the obverse taken. Was BEFORE I removed the capsule! So apparently, I did miss it when I was first using my Loupe.

I agree with the others just leave it be, but nice photos showing the proof contrast. Love that black/white look, makes it almost 3-D! In the 80s-90s auctions catalogs, they were all black and white images in the catalog, but I remember always thinking how nice proof coins looked in those images based on that heavy black/white contrast. Nice pickup Joey!

Can't tell at the moment if the marks are dust partials yet?

On the obverse, next to the "L" in Liberty, might be a nick?

Those dust particles could eventually result in spotting and should be carefully removed with compressed air. That's why you should leave modern proofs in their capsule.
