I am interested in starting to collect these and want to know what series presents best as a circulated cameo?

I'm not attempting to give you a hard time, but I have seen various coins attributed as "circ cam" that I would not have labeled as such. So, do you have an example of what you are looking for? It doesn't have to be a coin that you own, but one that gives an example of the look. Otherwise, I think you may get some coins that look quite different than others in this thread.

I've always felt this kind of personified "circ cam"
Usually when I think of the term I think high contrast dark to like, somewhat from wear

I think this is particularly attractive.

I would say how well they present is subjective like anything, but I personally think bust and seated coinage often present very well with the look. Barber coinage can be very striking with it as well and there are many others, especially on the world coin side with more elaborate designs.

Otherwise, I think you may get some coins that look quite different than others in this thread.I’ll post this as an example of that note- this is a coin a lot of folks would call a circulated cameo; it is a lovely crusty original but I wouldn’t as there is not quite enough contrast in the devices compared to the fields, in other words she lacks a full “cameo” effect.

Thank you guys for the images. I am highly considering making a type set in this format. Do trueviews ever reflect the cameo nature of the coins or are they too bright?

Here's a nice one I had graded and sold on GC. Nice F15....this is the TrueView. Would be perfect for a type set.

I started a type set like that several years ago then promptly lost interest, here is one of the few coins that made it into the album.

Even a vintage counterfeit can be a "circ-cam", even a type that is rarely seen this way.

That is a great example, most of the ones I have seen are so worn the design is nearly obliterated.

I tend to see circ cam more on seated liberty coins, but that’s probably just the quantity of coins produced. Here is a couple of mine.
The photos are taken through plastic , and with a cellphone so they’re a little shotty.Now who’s going to provide us with some circ cam gold? I KNOW YOUR OUT THERE!!

I use (for my own purposes) three gradations for the "circulated cameo" look. Sometimes difficult to find examples with the look on both obverse and reverse.

I've never thought about this until now but maybe a new term, "uncircam". B/c the coin is an uncirculated piece, not circulated.
After 33 years with this series, these 4 coins are the only ones I have of this nature.Leo
The more qualities observed in a coin, the more desirable that coin becomes!

Dirtcam: 177? Machin's Mills halfpenny and 1782 Mexican 1 real out of the dirt.
The Machin's Mills halfpenny was 4-5 inches deep near the huge "Washington Oak" at Washington College, MD.
The Mexican Real was dug from a garden on Long Island.

1840-O WB-3 (R5) PCGS VF25 - this die marriage has been taunting me lately, watching examples I pass on turn out to be nice coins. I love the look of this coin and put an end to the taunting with a high bid.
