1916 SLQ real?

Relative of mine is looking at buying this coin . I told him I don’t think it looks real, something seems off about it but I don’t know what. Let me know what you guys think please!!! TIA!

    WAY fake. Tell your relative to pass, and buy a certified one.

    That copy is not even close. It looks like one those things you get for playing skeeball except that it is smaller.

    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

    Everything looks off about it. That's a horrible fake. To be very blunt, your relative has no business buying anything expensive and commonly faked if this kind of coin is considered.

    Very crude fake. Unless you're an expert authenticator and an expert grader, don't buy expensive raw coins especially key date coins.

    You might want to suggest to “Relative” that they only buy “expensive” coins graded by a TPG.

    I'm not expert about any series, despite having spent a lot of energy getting educated. I cannot imagine considering such a coin--Why would anyone not a true expert consider spending thousands of dollars on a non-certified key-date coin (especially a grody one like this)?

    Absent a private transaction between experts who know and trust each other, I see no reason for a seller of such a coin not to have had that coin certified (other than the fact that the seller has something to hide, of course). If this coin were certified by a reputable TPG, it would sell for far more in a sale to the public than as a raw coin. For obvious reasons.

    Could that “1916 SLQ” look more fake to even the uneducated coin person? There are so many references available today to inform and teach people. Just pick a picture of a certified real 1916 and the differences will become abundantly obvious. Steer clear of that cast fake.
