CACG Grading open

Does anyone know if CAC Grading is now open and accepting coins from existing CAC members?

All I keep getting is emails from them stating rules, rule changes, contests, this is how to fill out the forms, ECT .
I'm getting too old for all this nonsense I just would like to know if I can send some of my coins in for grading.
That's all folks 🐰

I asked this question on the CAC forum last week, not yet but getting closer was the answer I received from the CAC team. Currently only the CAC investors are allowed to submit coins for grading.

Not sure why someone would invest all this time and money in marketing to wind up being a sham. Nevermind, I've heard of ponzi schemes. Lol

Starting to seriously wonder if this is a sham grading company. Putting out sample slabs as a smoke & mirrors scheme to front as a major player in the tpg space isn’t working.

So I'm guessing that you haven't seen all the non sample slabs already in a few dealer inventories.

I saw (non-sample) CACG slabs at the ANA show today. They are out there, just not too many yet.

I think you’re referring to all the details slabs which have the Reg score value screw up confusion labels. I guess either I’m the sole minority or the only person with eyes, but I’d be worried and pissed if I was an investor in cacg.

On a side note, I don’t blame dealers for submitting all the problem coins right away to see what sticks. Detailed dreck is a tough sell, and you’ve gotta try anything to “improve” it.

CAC announced they would attend the show from Wednesday August 9 through Sat August 12.
And I do not know why no Tuesday attendance and didn't see a statement as to why.

David Lawrence has plenty of CACG slabs for auction..the only ones seeming to garner any interest are the screw up Reg value slabs. WTF was JA thinking about giving a net grade like the old ANACS soapboxes? I am gonna try and get a couple for investment purposes. Buy the plastic not the details junk inside!

As has already been posted, those aren’t net grades and they won’t be included on the grading labels anymore.

No I'm speaking about all the straight graded coins in CAC slabs, like those on the DLRC site. Perhaps you are in the minority, in a bad way. Or perhaps you are intentionally being obtuse because you need to hate on something, either way that is on you.

I saw a CACG 70 ASE on eBay at $95. I can get the same coin from my supplier on the bay PCGS 70 for $54. So the coin that’s $95 just not a deal for me and so what if its out lol.

When first setting up years ago this one guy would low ball me on my stuff but puff up his stuff. Very convincing fellow if u did not c thru the smoke. Told him stuff it.

So as far as the $95 coin above - stuff it.

That got me too but not a buyer of details coins. I would be curious what my problem coin dealer friend would say but he’s deceased. Are People bidding them up bc of the plastic? Holder game on steroids lol. Let them Go bid on them if they c a deal there.

@MFeld you are technically correct in that the Registry grade lets you know how many points your Details coin will get in the CACG Registry. The market would have interpreted this as a net grade designation....why else would JA so hastily remove it? Not well thought out IMO. Our host gives ZERO points to Details coins. That makes it easy to understand.

They are being traded as ANA - a friend showed me a straight graded CACG Peace dollar yesterday that he had picked up yesterday morning.

I like the idea of allowing details coins in their registry. There are lots of people who include details coins in their collections when problem free coins are too expensive. Especially key dates or scarce coins. I agree it was a bit confusing having it on the holder, but my guess is that wherever that information is posted, people will begin to use it for pricing as a guide as well. There was another thread recently about pricing of problem coins which can be difficult. Maybe this will help those that buy these coins.
I would assume that the net grade for registry is based on several things including severity of problem and not a set number. For example a coin with minor surface damage or rim nick may have a registry value closer to actual condition than a coin with a hole. Maybe not. We will see.

Someone posted they thought dealers were sending in the problem coins hoping they would stick. We don’t know if that is the case, or if they sent in coins for crossover and got a surprise in the mail. Places like DLRC already have a pretty good idea of CAC standards and I would expect they sent coins they thought would straight grade. JMO

Unknown to all but very few (really old) numismatists, the original advice was actually “Buy the holder, not the coin”.
But one day, Mr. Not-So-Good-At-The-Game-Of-Telephone messed up and changed it to ”Buy the coin, not the holder” and that terrible advice stuck for many years. Fortunately, over time, many market participants have recaptured and followed the original, correct advice - “Buy the holder, not the coin.”
And all is right again in the world of numismatics.😉😉

I've always believed in both. There is a sight unseen price for a coin in a holder. There's also a sight seen price for a coin.

We could just talk about our buy/sell margins and what great dealers we are, that wouldn't be boring at all. Of course, that has nothing to do with PCGS either, so that might be an issue.

There are multiple samples on the floor for $200 -asking price. Every dealer at the show got a sample, and many won’t feed into this. There are literally no rarity to these, there are like thousands of these floating around at the show. You literally could walk to their table and get one for free!

I finally saw and held the holder and seen the grading. Personally, many improvements need to be made in my opinion and there are some changes already happening from what I’ve heard. It’s a new company, so start up issues are to be expected. However, I personally am going to stick with the best and established company (our host).

Any idea exactly how many of these samples were made? It was first come first serve and they went, very quickly, from what I understand. I was told that it was a mob scene. I don’t think they are as common as you say they are. I think they will become more valuable as time wears on. Would I pay a huge premium for them? No. But there are a lot of plastic collectors who would IMHO.

    >

agree a huge line to get one, but all the dealers and registered people at the table I believe got one. Felt similar to the FUN show NGC samples that were all over the show every year. I suspect there were a couple thousand of these made and distributed just today at the show. I am happy to be corrected, but many dealers I talked too, I could have bought the sample for $20 from them (was offered 5 at that price)

Edited to add, I got three at a table I’m on with three people listed. I do think they will be collectible and not saying they are worth $20 just it’s literally a worthless quarter (well, 25 cents). I personally think it would have been cooler if they made a commemorative piece instead of a quarter from pocket change. Again, this is not an area I’m interested in as a colonial coin specialist, but I do very much understand the collectability of holders and I’m probably being a downer with my statement.

I can’t believe people paying $200 for them (the sample slabs). It’s really disgusting to me. The coins in the sample slabs about 80c MV per NN. I think the sample slab market will collapse when the real rollout comes out in mass. Then once they bid up all that at some point realize they >>>>end user! The end user is somebody so buried in an investment they have no hope getting in the green.

I’m a night owl tonight so, I’ve seen some pretty cool early sample slabs that while I don’t believe in buying the holder over the coin, are actually pretty rare and sell for a lot of money. I’ve sold 5 NGC black holders as an example (I know, not samples). Certain samples and rare holders are quite collectible. But created collectibles are not the same as unintentional collectibles. My possibly silly opinion is that these samples are beanie babies (created “rarities”) while others are actually unintentional rarities that are collectible. Again, just my opinion which may not really matter!!

Just opinion, but as I said above, I would think every business starting out goes through changes to align with a market. A new grading service today I think needs to have an approach that offers a noticeable difference from the established and time tested services we already have. Again, just my opinion.

    I agree!

Many would like a service that focuses on accurate and consistent grading.
In addition, a few weeks turn around time for regular service would be much appreciated.
Many of you remember when this was the reality.

Could just be more wear on the Reeding of a lower grade heavily circulated coin. I’m sure they’ll reholder it and cover the postage both ways. I’m sure the holder will be tweaked over time. No big deal.

I sold mine for $115 as I wasn’t trying for the highest price just the lowest posted price on EBay.
