One of the nicer contemporary counterfeit Walking Liberty half dollars I've owned...
I acquired this 1942-D contemporary counterfeit over the weekend. I own several contemporary counterfeit WLH's, and this one is by far the best made one I've seen so far. The others have been far more mushy and lacking in detail. Based on the wear, this fooled some people back in the day...

That one appears to have worked long and hard in commerce going undetected.

Not to "counterfeit" your thread sir, but here my counterfeit walkers that I have (they appear to be lead). I added an 1874-S counterfeit trade dollar for reference.

- The color is off. If you look closely you can see it had a silver-colored wash on it at one point to give it the appearance of being silver. From it's time in circulation, this has worn off on the high points of the design, revealing the darker 'pot metal' underneath.
- The rims are off. They are very thick for a WLH of this era, especially on the obverse.
- There is some porosity on both sides of the coin, indicating the coin could have been cast.
- I haven't weighed it, but having handled thousands of genuine ones, this one definitely feels light.

Yes, for a cast counterfeit WLH your example is quite nice. Some die struck counterfeit WLHs are also quite good, such as this 1921 made from hand-made dies.
