Someone really wanted this raw set of three Ikes

braddickbraddick Posts: 24,372 ✭✭✭✭✭

I thought I threw down a decent bid toward the end. The auction was sitting at $50. and I bid $234.
I was a bit surprised at the closing price!
Oh well. Maybe next time. . .

Wow, I guess so. Maybe it was the presentation case? B)

Is there a reason why the center coin is not toned? Like, it had been switched out?

My guess is they want them to submit for grading.

For the better part of 33 years, it took quite a while to finally land a coin of this caliber like this one that wasn't quite cameo but yet had adequate frost so I could afford one. I have a couple of other lesser examples. I went nuclear on this one and successfully got it for $30 less than another I had bid on earlier this year that I returned because it had been cleaned and there were 5 carbon spots on it.
This new addition, IMO has a deep cameo obverse and almost cameo reverse. I can live with this one after all the years of waiting. There is a short video of it in my sigline below.
But next time, go nuclear if you want it bad enough and that there's a return policy so your not stuck with it out of principle. :)

I bought a set like this. Have 5 gorgeous Toned Ikes from it.. never submitted them.

  • Cladking here, fantastic buy, the 71s is the pick of the litter. I’ll post pics to my IG once I get back from PCGS. In meantime, some of you know of my collection, which is posted on IG.

It's all relative to how much money you have and how bad you want them.

I have a 32 coin set that almost all the coins exhibit similar toning. Many of the coins came from the sets American Express marketed.

Maybe you should have went higher. Seems like an exceptionally nice set with the case, with good upside for the toners. With how many seconds left on the EBay clock do you submit your snipe bid? I tried and won an auction with 11 seconds left but do you think it can be safely done with 5-6 seconds

    The toners do look nice.

In the past I've sniped at the 1 or 2 second mark. Recently tried at 3 seconds and got OUTSNIPED at 1 second.
The coin had sat with no activity for 3 or 4 days. I more than doubled the winning amount only to get beat by the next higher increment. Checked the h/x, Yup. One second left. I usually try to hit it with about 5 seconds left.

If it ain’t blast white, it ain’t alright. Ugly painted coins. ;)

Ok, ok. To each their own. Still crazy money to me for Ikes.

Having fun while switching things up and focusing on a next level PCGS slabbed 1950+ type set, while still looking for great examples for the 7070.

Wow. Just sold a set like that ( blue case) for $10 out of the shop. They weren't toned but they were mid 60 grades.
    I'm happy  I wasn't the underbidder.

Considering there is over $7. in silver value alone in each of the three coins I'd say you got gypped
