1859 Seated Dollar

Does anyone know where this coin is? It was photographed over 10 years ago by Todd of blucc photo. I don't have an image of the reverse but using the date position it appears to be an S mint.

The owner of that one from CoinFacts is a friend. Thankfully it has not been dipped.

You have my attention. If your collecting early type coins like any seated series I hope you do extensive research before dipping any coin. I strongly encourage all numismatists to educate themselves on this important topic. There are many great articles on toning and cleaning and conserving coins including dipping that every numismatist should read.

I'll close with my personal preference on this topic.

I recognize, appreciate, and value the beautiful and unique toning that nature creates. Hopefully you will choose to preserve the surfaces of these historic works of art rather than stripping their natural patina. Naturally toned early silver coins are scarce numismatic treasures that should be carefully preserved as part of our numismatic heritage.

Yes I would personally never choose to dip a coin, but some people would like too .
