So annoyed I braintooted in not recognizing the piece below a few months back. Surface issues and some handling, clearly, but as alluded to, silvered pieces don't surface very often:
But back to this auction, I must be imbibing too much lately... am I seeing correctly that someone paid $17K for a Golden Fleece semi-common assayer G 4R - with edge corrosion??????!!!

@realeswatcher good catch! I missed that one. Was it being sold as a regular issue?
I will comment that it was most likely plated after striking, and probably after some wear (perhaps to circulate?). I have never seen nor heard about a silver-plated example of this pattern. There are silver examples, but they are very rare.
However, pleased to have picked up former Rudman 1760/59 1/2R in MS62, VF25 1767 and XF40 1788 4Rs, and AU58 1795 8R
Congratulations! That's a good group.
I think the C3 1/2R bidding left me a bit dismayed and I didn't end up pursuing anything else.
That said, it's one time were I was glad to be a loser.
$4K+ is just too much $ for that coin.
I foolishly let myself get caught up in auction fever and it almost cost me.

That was impressive money for the 1829 8R patterns...

Earlier date Zacatecas used to be dirt cheap even 10 years ago... and they've gone up and up and up - even fairly common dates in below UNC grades.
E.G., a little better middle date, typical meh strike and dipped out... $360 incl. juice for THIS??!!

This was amazing to me too! The G assayer isn't even rare (though maybe G-M is better than M-G). It was decently round and well-centered, but still.
Personally, I hated the color on that one, though I expect that was part of the appeal to the buyer.
