This one is for sale on eBay. On the obverse there is a poor strike on the stars, but there date has a stronger strike. On reverse many letters are missing or struck poorly, denticles are strong. The coin has VF wear on the eagle and liberty, but denticles are not showing VF wear. There also are some large bumps/bubbles on the reverse. If you feel the coin is counterfeit, please give your reason. If the coin is genuine, how did it happen?

It appears to be genuine from the pictures. But a closer examination (in person) would be necessary to be sure.
As for the weakly-struck design elements, I wonder what the weight is ?
Perhaps it was struck on a normal 26.7-gram silver dollar planchet instead of a 27.2-gram Trade Dollar planchet ?

Looks genuine to me. It might have been struck through grease, or that weakness we’re seeing is actually PMD. I’d be curious to know what it weighs.

I believe it is a genuine coin. Not sure why it's so weakly struck. Most 77-P Trade $'s are weak on the obverse.

i vote genuine and in 1877 they didnt have the powerful hydraulic presses they have now. it looks like full pressure was exerted towards the center and less so toward the edges im not quite sure how they were struck in 1877 but if weight and metal analysis is correct 90% silver 10% copper or whatever i give it a thumbs up the chinese knockoffs are easy to spot.

She has a bit of a skeleton face that I kinda like. I think it's genuine with original skin.

Die spacing. At least I think so.

Based on pictures, the coin appears genuine. In hand examination would be necessary for confirmation. Lots of rim damage and strangely faded letters and stars. I would not buy this coin. Cheers, RickO

I find it strange that none of the Major Trade dollar experts have commented on this one.

Kind of looks like a 1837 no stars dime. I like it!
