When I was a kid and my mail order coins arrived, I used to feverishly tear open the packages on the spot. Nowadays, for whatever reason, I tend to let the mail pile up for a while and only open it when I’m in a suitably numismatic mood.
I just run hot and cold with my hobby interest these days. I'd rather open the coin packages when I'm in the right mood. When I'm in a non-numismatic mood, the fun would not be as fun.
(When I was a kid and needed instant gratification, I was never in a non-numismatic mood!)
I too do that occasionally. Though I do put them in the safe. Opened a few the other day and found 4 gold pieces that I completely forgot about buying. In fact I don't remember them at all and have no recollection of any such transaction. I need to wait not so long, I think.
Sure is fun when you do open especially when you remember pulling the trigger!

Beautiful pickups, LM! I don't know if I could have a package sitting around for weeks, though. What if they sent the wrong coin?
I have let stuff sit a couple of days if I'm in a bad mood. You're right that it can spoil the fun.

Seems a bit risky to me. If there was an issue with the coin (damaged or wrong coin sent), the seller could argue that you’ve had it for a week, why are you just now filing a complaint/dispute? Beautiful coins regardless!

I’ve done it. And quite often while at work. In fact, I’m having them shipped to my work address sometimes. (As was the case with that half eagle.)
Nice Coins! I need to get some early gold like that…
