Too much wear for an AU grade. Looks like a very nice XF45. B)

I'm thinking the obverse photo is not showing all the luster. AU55

The only ones I recall are the dateless ones that were cherried by identifying the remaining markers.
But I’m sure after my 16 years on the forum there have been a few others. FH 1917 T1’s have been relatively abundant, of course.

XF45 that was cleaned long ago and is now starting to retone. Strong date. A coin that will be an easy sell when it comes time to sell. Many, many collectors would treasure having it!

It is a nice coin. I wonder if a different photo of the obverse which showed more luster would have increased some of the lower guesses. The reverse photo looks quite nice and gave more weight in my guess than the obverse.

I too would have graded it a 45 due to the wear on the shield......but maybe that is just a poor strike. And if that is the case there exist many well struck examples out there.

I was looking at the wear on the eagle's breast. This may be another case of grade inflation. I'm guessing that coin won't CAC. It's still a very nice, attractive and desirable coin, B)
