Feelin’ Frosty on a Friday in Florida

FloridafacelifterFloridafacelifter Posts: 1,399 ✭✭✭✭✭

How’s that for some alliteration?
There are few things I love more than proof Morgans, and when I saw this one it just knocked my socks off- looks like it was made yesterday. Very unusual degree of deep cameo frost for this early Morgan time period- if you covered the date I would have guessed late 1890’s (1898 particularly) when the frost was very heavy and the mirrors very deep.

Deep black fields that look like the glassy smooth surface of Lake Tahoe in August on a day without any wind; plus snow white, thick, even frost on the devices. What a great look on a silver proof coin.

What makes this post even better is that the coin is an early proof Morgan Dollar graded PF68 DCAM.

It would be a treat to learn the ownership history of this coin from the day it was minted through the present.

I assume that the coin is now yours. If so, congratulations on acquiring same.

I can see this particular coin making an appearance tomorrow morning in the separate thread dealing with Saturday morning, coffee and coins :)

Good to hear you now are the owner of this coin.

Better get some premium blend coffee for tomorrow morning. No low end java for this coin.

Mighty magnificent Morgan. This masterpiece must make your morning marvelous.

I am a newer collector (started April 2020), and I primarily focus on U.S. Half Cents and Type Coins. Early copper is my favorite.

Looks like it should say "One Troy Ounce" somewhere on it. Too good for a coin.

This is a great coin. 1881 is very difficult in dcam. I have been following cameos for over 30 years and just a few have been graded deep cameo. Congrats!

@Floridafacelifter You shouldn't have frost in Florida. Send it to Boston where it belongs.

A photo of the owners favorite coffee mug as seen through the mirrors of his newest world class Morgan would be fantastic.
