PSA Certification Number Issue

I recently purchased a PSA card and when I went to add the card to one of my set registries I got a message saying the number has been intentionally decertified. Not sure what that means, whether it’s a phony PSA graded tag or a duplicate number or what. Sent a request to Customer Service but wanted to know if anyone else has seen this?

    Probably has been reported as stolen.

    Sorry this happened to you and I hope there is a resolution. I check cert numbers before bidding and haven't seen this before.

    Still waiting on PSA to "gather the necessary information on my end to authorize your item to come in for an item verification". Not sure what all that means but I'm sure they won't be simply re-activating the certification number that was deactivated.

    I had a 1961 Topps PSA 9 Frank Robinson card in my registry for many years and one day I noticed it had been removed from my registry set. I contacted PSA and they stated there was a Ted Williams card with the same cert number. I sent them photos of my card, but they wanted to examine it in hand. They paid for my postage to have the card mailed to them and after about a month I received my card back. It was in a nice new holder, with the same grade assigned, but it had a new cert number. They even entered the new cert along with a photo of my card in my registry set. Initially I was very stressed because I purchased the card on eBay, and I thought that they would determine my card was fraudulent and would confiscate it. Luckily it worked out fine.
