Bronze half dollar 1982

You guys have given invaluable help in the past and I'm hoping someone can enlighten me to this strange half dollar.
As you can see it has a bronze finish which baffles me.

    No, but they are copper nickel alloys.

    You've got a "rusty" half dollar. It doesn't look oxidized to you?

    It's worth fifty-cents either way. However, damage like your coin has will not just disappear, there is underlying metal damage that will show up unless you polish the crud out of the coin.

    Agree. The obverse in particular actually looks kind of cool. Looks like something you'd see under a microscope. Weird
