Just noticed something...

oih82w8oih82w8 Posts: 13,052 ✭✭✭✭✭

While I was taking down the tills for the night, I noticed a new shiny quarter. But this one did not state "QUARTER DOLLAR", it listed 25c as its denomination. That has not been listed as such since Draped Bust quarters.

I noticed that too. I’m not sure yet how I feel about it. Sometimes I look at it and think it looks cool, and I like it. Other time I look at it and it makes me think it looks cheap, like it’s some toy coin for teaching kids about money. Overall though I think I’m in favor.

I wonder if there is a story about why they used that 25¢ in the design.

Definitely a first with the 25 ¢, not sure if I like it. Though I’m not sure if I like real people on coins either. :)

Good catch on the "c" vs. "¢". And being the first with the cent symbol.

It is interesting, and a first for the 'cent sign' on a U.S. coin. My opinion is, they used the 25¢due to lack of space with that particular design. JMO Cheers, RickO

They also think that a quarter year is 4 months. (not 3).

The typewriters we used long ago had a "cent sign" on the keyboard, but modern computers do not have one on their keyboards.

Or use INSERT, but still not on the keyboard.

I'm wondering what the Chief Engraver at the Mint does these today's. Is he a CAD? Computer Aided Designer?

That has to be typed on the number pad to the right, not the numbers up top.

Not spelling out the denomination in my opinion makes it look like an arcade token. I also include the Presidential Dollars and the American Innovation Dollars in that group.
As far as the quarter series goes, they should have given it a rest after the statehood quarters.

¢ Wow I found it, not labeled, buried in a keyboard option where you are forced to use shortcuts.....good grief.....why can't it just be on a key?? That's my 25¢ worth.

Or alt-4 for Mac users (vs. shift-4 for $).
