    Appears to be a lot of marks on the obverse so I'd say best is MS64 RD. Pics are a little out of focus.

    I agree. My first guess is 62RD and if not that, Unc. details, obverse damage.
    It’s a shame that someone spent money to get it graded. I wonder if they thought/were hoping it was an SMS example.

    Looks like a 62RD to me.... pictures are a tad blurry, so might be better or worse. Cheers, RickO

    Not at all "choice" imo. Looks like it scraped on something putting those marks on its obverse that all run the same direction.

    Mistakes are natural. But repeated mistakes without reflection are something else. That may be the “stupidity” he was referring to. In research, he admitted uncertainty openly. “If we knew what it was we were doing, it would not be called research, would it?” This shows humility. Even a Nobel laureate accepted doubt. That humility makes the quote less cynical and more observational.

    While I have no idea why someone would pay to have this one graded, I bought it as an educational piece for myself. I can't see anything out if the ordinary color wise.

    When I was a noob, I might have submitted coins just like this. I didn't know how to look at them and judge MS coins correctly.

    If you are just having fun, why not resubmit for reconsideration or regrade. I do not see QC on that coin. But perhaps their sniffer detected chemical residue?

    Just curious, how will this be educational if you cannot detect anything out of the ordinary with the color. In order to learn anything you would need to know what (if anything) was done to the coin. Perhaps in ten years if the coin turns you may learn something, but if not it will be a mystery if any doctoring was done or did the graders whiff.

    You would gain more knowledge if you buy a BU roll of 64-D cents and do some experiments yourself. Different levels of dip strength, MS70, and so forth. Label each coin with what you did and see how each "ages" over a few months and years, that will give you the knowledge to view a coin like this and have an idea what may have happened.

    Fwiw from the photos alone the color looks too bright and "fresh", most copper coins of this age have developed some skin and a more orange coloration to them. I don't think it was dipped but looks more like MS70 may have been applied prior to submission, I might have a different opinion if viewed in hand.

    I have a couple unc rolls of this date. That's what strikes me as odd is that in hand it looks just like those in a roll I opened. So educational for me will be continuing to look it and compare to others i see. That's how I've learned all along.

    It would also be educational to crack it out and resubmit it to see if it came back details the 2nd time. I'm not sure it would.
