Error guys: Would you agree this one went too cheap?

braddickbraddick Posts: 23,390 ✭✭✭✭✭

I do.
I had it on my watch list all week, and it closed before I thought to bid.
The closing price of $475. It seems to be too cheap.
The problem was the seller listed it as a dime cent struck on a dime planchet
when in reality, it is a cent struck on a struck dime.

The photos weren't the best either, so if someone were skimming the headline would probably
pass on bidding.

Then again, I may be off in my logic, and these errors have come down in price over the last few months.

I sold my raw 11 cent for $700 to a dealer last year.

That does seem a bit cheap for that error.. and certified as well. I am not an expert on error pricing though. Cheers, RickO

Under $500 for a certified 11 cent error in MS62 is a good price. Error prices are very piece specific and eye appeal is a real price driver. The photos show a coin with low eye appeal..hence the price.

I would have bid on that one but I did not see it as it was listed in Morgan Dollars :o

    Wrong category equals low price.

And not using the word "error" in the listing...

I would have bid too had I seen that. It’s a cool error that has been on my radar (but haven’t actively searched for one).

ANACS doesn't use the word "Error" on their inserts. This could be an opportunity for them.

That wouldn't have prevented the lister from stating "error" in the auction title.

It wouldn't have, but sometimes it may just slip someone's mind. The seller does add it here:

    475 bucks for a mistake ?

Seems about right to me, but I am NOT an error specialist, nor into modern coins terribly much, so I'm not exactly representative of the market. But it's a pretty cool piece, I will say.

Yes, that went for a bargain price. It would be easily listed on a dealer's website for around $900 I believe. If you picked it up, congratulations!

    I wouldn't be that aloof!
(Not my coin, yet I sure wanted to bid at the end and missed doing so- it closed at a weird time.)

Bummer. Well, someone got a great deal. Too bad it is usually after they end when I find the great deals.
