Seeking information on this unusual Dansco album

braddickbraddick Posts: 24,880 ✭✭✭✭✭

I purchased this from a seller on eBay. (It took a while to get to me as he mailed it Registered).
I have tried to locate additional information without success.
Perhaps you have seen or heard of it before?
Any details would be appreciated!

This page comes up in a Google search for Federal Coin Fund: Link

There is a complaint posted from 1988 about a set of SBA Dollars where the 1981 proof is the "wrong coin". I am guessing they contracted with Dansco to make custom albums that they filled and marketed to non-collectors.

Sean, that's my impression too. I am curious how many of these contracted Dansco albums were produced and if it is something Dansco commonly did back in the day.
My search appears to prove it was an unusual practice for Dansco.
I have also set off a flare to AlbumNerd, as he is the resident expert on Dansco albums.

It's the same one from this thread, right?

Seems like something custom made for Federal Coin Fund to sell back in the day.

It would be interesting to see one of the SBA dollar albums hinted at in the link I shared, or if Federal Coin Fund commissioned any other books. It looks like it would be tricky to hunt for these by the covers alone, a there is nothing in the photos you shared to identify it as custom.

There are also some Whitman Bookshelf albums that were made for specific customers, the two that pop immediately to mind are the Century 21 / Seattle World's Fair token album and the ones for Presidential Art medals, including Statehood and Declaration Signer medals.

    Yes, that's the same one.
My search of Federal Coin Funds doesn't show any of these sets for sale- even using the Wayback machine.

I'm thinking they stopped selling well before the internet days.
I do wonder how many they sold and where they are since I would expect telemarketers to produce more than a handful of such sets.

I actually like the black covers on it.

    My fault!
The color is exactly that of regular Danso albums- a dark brown with gold lettering.
The outdoor sunlight made the cover darker in the photos.

@braddick Great find! Looks to be a custom album made by the Federal Coin Fund. I haven't seen this album pop up before or mentioned before, so you got a rare one on your hands!

The only other Federal Coin Fund albums I am aware of are

I don't have much more information about Dansco's partnership with the FCF sadly and I haven't been able to find anyone who knows more about it.

They did some custom albums for Littleton, before they decided to make their own green line.

AlbumNerd, thanks for the additional info! It's cool to see other custom albums Dansco has produced.
I don't know if the Walker or Morgan album comes on the market often it at all. I'll check eBay on occasion, as they
    would make neat additions.

That is a nice album. I would get one if I see it.... Have not been doing sets for a long time, but I would do that one. Darn, now I have to look for one of those... Cheers, RickO

I posted a link to that earlier in the thread. @AlbumNerd one of the reviews there mentions a 12pc SBA set purchase, I assume they would have used a regular Dansco album for such a set rather than having to commission a custom?

Yes @seanq, the person would most likely have used a regular Dansco SBA album. [#7180 or #8180]. I have never seen a custom SBA albums made by Dansco.
