Is there some reason that this shouldn't be in the BST thread?

What is a "Goldback"? Never heard that term before.

Thanks. Are they actually made by four states or is this some kind of novelty item made to be sold commercially to the uneducated masses?

I don't believe they are made by the states. Rather, they are made by a private company for any group or individual who sponsors their production for a given state as long as that state does not have any statutes that prohibit the use of Goldbacks as voluntary barter.

In other words, anyone can sponsor a series of Goldback notes for any state as long as the state doesn't legally prohibit their voluntary use in barter. You have to get in touch with the private company and have to be willing to put up about $400,000 of your own money so that they will buy the gold, design and produce the notes, and then make them available for purchase to be collected or used in commerce.

So they aren't produced under the authorization of states and they aren't produced at the request of states, but are instead produced at the request of groups or individuals in the name of states where the potential use is not legally prohibited.

    For anyone interested: https://www.goldback.com/

They aren't cheap. Personally, I think they are a dumb gimmick. But they do have quite a following.

I've seen them at shows but never gave them much thought. Looks like some businesses accept them for payment. Do they fluctuate with the price of gold or does each business set thier own price.

Dr. Adam Trexler is a nice guy. You can design your own, and he'll make them, but you have to buy a STACK. You can email him and he'll get back to you.

    Got 100. > @JDsCoins said:

I have a stack of 100 in my shop. One of my customers who buys silver brought them in. They're yours for $595 plus s/h and 3.9% PP/ processing fees.
I like them but the premium of $5k-$6k per oz of gold ( they contain 1/1000th of an oz) keeps me from dealing too much . They are cool.

    But the real question is:
How bad do you really WTB ?

Thanks for posting the website. The video was faun to watch, the products look nice. I'm sure there is a market but it's not me, I know these really aren't bullion but these have some of the highest premiums I've ever seen.

I was also expecting to see gold certificates like the one you showed. For what gold certificates cost, I'd rather buy real US gold coins from the same era. I find gold certificates to be rather depressing because they are a promise made by our government that they dishonestly reneged on.
