Lucite, or a shell?
It is a fairly thin plastic encapsulation.
Similar to the type of "blister pack" that a lot of new products are housed in for display on hooks at stores.

I can tell from the obverse strike characteristics that it is a Philadelphia Mint product.

By the way ima big D carr fan here, learned so much from your website and videos - thanks for all you do. One of my favorite coins is a Dan Carr peace dollar over strike … the 2 oz 1921 high relief and you made some cameo proofs that are amazing. I also have your covid tokens - so cool!

1922 D and S mint Peace dollars tend to have rounded rims. The Philadelphia issue tends to have broader flatter rims.
Also the Philadelphia coins tend to develop the splotchy toning and/or "milk-spotting" whereas the D and S coins don't as much.

If you study the unstruck portions of off-center coins you can see how the upsetting of the rims on the planchets varied from Mint to Mint. This affected how the rims struck up on the finished coins. Study enough coins and you can see these tendencies.

Yes, I still own that Morgan Dollar version. I’ve had 2-3 of them over the years. Of the 200+ different encased silver dollars in my collection this one has always been one of my favorites.
