Charles III coin now in hand!

I finally got it! It’s pretty cool. The portrait is very realistic.

    Nice one.

I cheaped out and got one of the circulation types that they distributed in late 2022 through the post offices. It’s very bagmarked.

That's really cool actually! I like the normal strike version.

I think it would be cool if a moneyer were commissioned by the Crown to make Chaz 3 hammered groats.

Somewhat surprised that the Royal Mint hasn’t capitalized on hammered groats yet! Great idea though. 🙂

I got my 2022 Queen Elizabeth Memorial Definitive Uncirculated Set on Thursday and it includes the memorial circulation £5 and the circulation 50p with the other denominations having the privy mark. I love it and the effigies of Charles III are very realistic. I wish they had allowed Jody Clark to design it, however.

I just can’t get past the Dumbo-esque ears that just seem to remind me of the less substantial aspects of the monarchy.

Congratulations- I have several of the memorial issues coming (50p, sovereign sets, etc) but it’s a waiting game. They tell me most proof stuff is delayed. I’ve given up stressing and figure they will come one way or the other.

Apparently my cup has been made and videos sent by the maker!
It’s awaiting assay in London, then it should be on its way.

They are on sale here in Athens, Greece, but at a premium that does not make much sense to me, it’s a bullion sovereign after all.

@3stars was the APMEX price similar to other bullion gold sovereigns?

I got my Gold Sovereign yesterday from APMEX to add to my Great Britain Gold Sovereign type set. It's pretty reflective and was somewhat difficult to get decent pics.

My cup isn’t back from England yet, but it shouldn’t be too long. Anyway the other day I was on the London Assay Office’s website and saw this picture of the Coronation hallmark, struck in aluminum

I've had Charles III in hand for 29 years now. ;)

Dug this pair up about ten feet apart from each other. They were the first 1700s coins I ever found while detecting.

incredible! must be quite a feeling to find things like this while detecting. also goes to show I have so much more to learn about English history; was completely unaware there was previously a Charles III

There wasn’t. That’s Charles III of Spain on those coins I dug, which are Mexico City half reales. I was being silly. ;)

(But yes, it IS quite a rush.)

The cup has already been delivered! Two days and like eight hours from a little village in England to my house in North Carolina, just unbelievable how fast that was shipped!

I will see it tonight, if I have time I will get pictures up otherwise tomorrow probably.

Yesterday being Maundy Thursday, it got me to wondering if they are still distributing coins and if so, was Charles III on them this year?

Answered my own question - there are photos of his first Maundy coinage here

I ordered a batch of circulated ones as well. I carry one as a pocket piece. I intend to do the same with the currency version of the Coronation 50p (which, to my understanding, won't have the crowned portrait of the King).

I'm still bothered by Charles' name not being in Latin, though.
