I bought this raw, I believe it's genuine. Now to the question. There has been a lot of arguing, fighting even...name calling and a few choice words that I can't repeat here, and I'm all alone right now!!! It's rough.
I can't decide on 3 or 4 for the grade, maybe you all can help with that. Let me have it.

Even with the surface issues, I like it. The coin has great color and good meat. It's also an authentic US Mint product.

Normally the top of the obverse is weak on 1877 IHCs. Interesting that does not seem to be the case on this one.

G4, if it straight grades
I see what you are saying. I looked at quite a few g-4 graded 77s and they do exhibit weaker rims at the top of the obverse.

Yeah... if you're only using the letters of LIBERTY in the headband per old grading standards, the 1877 will often end up undergraded.

I don't care what some TPG may call this 1877. How can anyone look at that obverse and say "full rim?"

That's what I was wrestling with myself. There is a hint of the obverse rim all the way around but it's not very solid.

AG3. The obverse rim is just too far gone to call it a Good 4. The coin would still be an easy sell as it would make a great album coin.
