    Appears to be environmental damage... Long exposure to an unfavorable environment. Cheers, RickO

    Post mint damage. Probably corrosion.

    Thanks for the comments I'm curious about why none of the devices are affected by the ev-damage or corrosion?

    I agree with the Environmental Damage but it also looks like the coin was cleaned as well... look at the parallel lines along Liberty's forehead and in the clouds on the reverse. Perhaps this processing smoothed some of the corrosion patches...

    Yup, cleaned, but not overly aggressively. Cleared off all the high areas, but didn't get into the lower-lying surfaces.
