Another Trade Dollar question

The dimensions are correct but the weight is 415 grains. Is there a chance that it's genuine?

    Without having to do the math on my own what does 415 grains = in grams? Should be Mass / Weight: 27.22 grams

    That's not bad - could be just a thinner planchet - others can tell you if the weight differential is mint acceptable.

    Thanks. I have read that they kept the weight tolerance very tight. I am unsure of what variation, with wear, is within that tolerance.

    I think it is a genuine coin. The weight is off by wear. Trade dollars do need to be authenticated though. Lots of very deceiving trade dollars out there.

    The weight is reasonable with the visible wear and the coin appears to be authentic. Cheers, RickO

    Forget the weight. It's genuine. LOOKS genuine and not like any fake that I've seen. I'd put my money behind my 50+ years experience on this coin without weighing it.

    Collector and dealer in obsolete currency. Always buying all obsolete bank notes and scrip.

    Thank you all again for the responses! This was an impulse purchase, not typical for a series that I am not familiar with, but it caught my eye.
    I have lurked here for a few years, I am more than happy that I finally joined! I am confident now that the coin is genuine.
