1913-S T2 nickel. 23 guesses gave a number. Median-35. Average-35.43. Low-25 (2). High-45 (2). Most-35 (9).

My 1913-S T1, sent in for grading same time as the T2, is shown here for comparison purposes.

Mistakes are natural. But repeated mistakes without reflection are something else. That may be the “stupidity” he was referring to. In research, he admitted uncertainty openly. “If we knew what it was we were doing, it would not be called research, would it?” This shows humility. Even a Nobel laureate accepted doubt. That humility makes the quote less cynical and more observational.

    I don't really care what numeric grade was assigned to it, even if it's a details grade. It's got a great look in my opinion. I'd gladly have it my humble collection of Buffs, it would fit in great. Nice pick up.

    Thanks everyone for guessing a number grade and thanks too for the comments with no number. I am delighted with the grade my 1913-S Type 2 nickel received. PCGS Gold Shield...it just doesn't get any better!

    1913-S T2 isn't usually struck that well. It's also clashed most of the time.

    When I saw this coin at a show, I had to have it. Bought from J&J Coins, Sioux City, Iowa. John didn't have this '13-S out in his case when I stopped at his table. He will ask one, "What are you looking for?" I told him I was looking for early Buffs. You know, 1913, 1914, key dates in mid grades, not all worn out or with problem. So he went to one of his many boxes of coins in 2x2 holders and pulled the '13-S and a '14-D out for me to inspect. I bought both coins. ;) I've seen more 1909-S V.D.B.'s for sale at shows the last few years than I have 1913-S Type 2 nickels.
