Counterstamped 2 cent coin
I recently purchased a collection of coins and found a 1865 2 cent coin in the box. It is stamped J Churchill. The coin has great details and was wondering who this person was and where from. And wondering its value. Any help is appreciated. I dont collect this type of coin yet lol. And this is my firstpost to this group.

@Liamg ... Welcome aboard. Cannot tell much from your pictures (dark), but there are members that collect counterstamped coins and they will give you information from reference material. There is a dedicated book by Brunk that covers a multitude of counterstamps. Do a quick google search and you can get a lot of information. Cheers, RickO
The J. CHURCHILL c/s is not listed in the Gregory Brunk catalog of counterstamped coins. This is not surprising as about 50% of the named c/s that I encounter on 19th century copper & nickel coins are not listed. It is a very useful catalog but as the late Dr. Greg said, it will always be "a work in progress".
