1973 Kennedy half dollar

I have a Kennedy half dollar that is showing a silver edge and weighing 11.47g. Is this weight in the threshold of a clad half? Is it in the threshold of a 40% silver. How would this even be possible if it was a genuine 40% silver half dollar?

11.47g is within tolerance for either of those types.

Half dollars of that date are copper and nickel - they don’t have any silver content.

It is a regular 1973-D Half. Feel free to spend it if you want.

You're going to have to take it out of the 2x2 in order to "send it in", so why not do that now and get better photos? 🤔

It is your money to do as you please, but the weight is correct for a normal clad half, the copper is clearly visible on the edge, absolutely nothing to indicate anything but a normal clad half dollar.

Does that mean you don’t think the current photos and weight are adequate to determine that the coin is a normal example for the date?

Just in case, what? That it’s not a normal example, even though it looks like one and is the correct weight? If that’s the bar you’ve set, there are countless coins to send in and it will get very costly in a hurry.😉

Does it weigh 11.47g ot 10.17g? Did you tare with the empty 2x2?

Those raised staples are an accident waiting to happen. You need to crump those flat.

@Erikb... Your coin, your money, your decision. That being said, you have a clad Kennedy half, no silver. Good luck, Cheers, RickO

Not at all. I am confident by the obverse color alone that it's a clad half. I was just hoping that out of the 2x2 he might see what we all see already.

I'm also a little surprised that no one gave the general advice of not trying to photograph through plastic. Not that it matters much in this case.

Drop it on the table and listen to the sound it makes compared to a silver coin.
