"The Antiquary" John K. Curtis merchant card in copper Miller NY-180. PCGS MS64BN

This is one of those iconic medals that deserves a spot in any well heeled collection of exonumia. I was able to add this one recently after several failed attempts at locating a suitable example. They don't come up too often.

Piece is pretty representative of our entire hobby. Man seated at a table looking through his coins with a glass, pondering the origins of his treasures. Intrigued by the untold stories of these discs of metal, poised to research.

John K. Curtis was a coin dealer and purveyor of other "curiosities" for cabinets of the 19th Century on Bleecker St, NYC. Now known famously as Greenwich Village.

    Cool and extremely popular. They appear once in a blue moon on a CRO EB and are promptly snapped up! Congrats on finding one with such a nice look. Wouldn't it have been great to wander the streets of old NY and check out those curiosity shops?

    Yes, I was late inquiring on the QDB example which was at CRO and was kicking myself. That one was even nicer than this one. (but 3xs the price)

    Wandering the old streets of NY would be something! I picture his shop full of shrunken heads and swamp creatures preserved in formaldehyde. 😆

    Oddly enough the OP example was on eBay for nearly a year as the seller left some critical search info out of the title and also had it listed under the wrong category as I recall.

    I sold Stephanie's example privately for her last spring via a text and it was gone in under 60 seconds.
