Is this "pattern coin" on eBay a contemporary counterfeit?

I came across this coin on eBay. The seller thinks it is a pattern gold dollar struck in copper, but I thought it might be a cast contemporary counterfeit. I messaged the seller, but they don't seem to have changed anything. I know that some of you are collectors of contemporary counterfeits; what do you guys think?

    Given there isn't a record of this pattern existing (the only one I found with a quick search is this proof: https://auctions.stacksbowers.com/lots/view/3-2YQQF/1871-pattern-gold-dollar-judd-1161-pollock-1303-rarity-8-proof-64-bn-ngc) and the prevalence of contemporary counterfeits that may have been plated at best, I'd say counterfeit is much more likely than ultra rare pattern.

    That does not look like a United States Mint product, pattern or otherwise.

    I know it isn't a U.S. mint product, but I was just sharing to hear opinions about the coin itself, and whether it violates any eBay policies - it is a counterfeit, anyways.
    Also, how much would a collector of contemporary counterfeits pay for this?

    I collect world proof sets, coins featuring composers, mid-20th century U.S. proof coins, U.S. type coins, and whatever else I want.

    The condition is so poor I can't see anyone paying more than a few dollars for it. However, these days the price of many numismatic items surprise me.

    It is a counterfeit, and thus against eBay policy to be sold on eBay.

    Given the giant hole and clear evidence of some kind of clip-mount, I would assume it to be a "jewellery replica" made for a costume jewellery earring, rather than a circulating counterfeit.

    Looks like a contemporary (circulating) counterfeit to me. Although I doubt it's actually dated 1871, since I don't recall ever seeing one of that date.

    It's too crude to ever be passed in commerce as a genuine coin. Counterfeit gold coins were fairly common in circulation and people would carefully examine any gold coin tendered in payment for good and services. As has been pointed out, it was most likely made for the jewelry trade for use as a charm for a bracelet or neckless.

    Of course it is counterfeit, but who can tell regarding age. Probably modern repro, 1960s
