1910 US 1 Cent unusual appearance

Hi,
Just joined the forum and would like some help on a coin I have.
1910 US 1 cent with a finish similar to a 1943 steel cent but non magnetic. Any help would be appreciated.

    Definitely some sort of surface contamination. Kind of a shame because that would be a really good circulated album coin. Maybe a soak in acetone will remove it.

    Looks like it’s plated – weigh it- a normal copper cent should weigh 3.1 g or 48 grains
    Yours will weigh 3 grams/3.2 grams on your scale, in all probability

    Possibly an old mercury dip that is now wearing off. Many years ago it was not uncommon for high school chemisty classes to dip coins in mercury.

    Coin weighs 3.1g
    Some of the highlights show a slight copper color as in the date so maybe it is plated

    @Jordan2238 ... Welcome aboard. Yes, the cent is plated - silver or mercury likely. No numismatic premium, but in good condition for a 120+ year old coin. Cheers, RickO
