Picked this up cheaply a while back and now looking to sell (locally). I’m trying to assign a grade as a reference point and I don’t have a clue - can’t discern between strike and wear. Additionally, is the wood graining a plus or a detractor? You can tell I know nothing about Buffs…

    I'll go out on a limb and say AU55; too much rub in high areas for a AU58 grade and better than XF45, IMO.

    AU50 details, rim nick. It would make a good album coin. I don't think the woodgrain effect will make much difference.

    I agree that it’s likely AU-50 to 55 ish and the wood grain doesn’t make much, if any, difference.

    It would look nice in my album! I think it is mid-range AU. Not sure if the rim issues bad enough to get in a details holder or not, but it does look pretty bad near the "FIVE" on the reverse.

    I agree with the above Au50 to Au55 range plenty of distance from rim to Liberty and only slight rubs on reverse high points. agree that it would make a nice album piece for an xf/au set.

    I would assign a price if selling. It doesn't matter what grade you say it is to the buyer. Id say a $30 coin.

    I’m encouraged. I was thinking AU55+/- with a NZ$60 (US$38) asking price. Seems like the right ballpark. Thanks.

    I would go AU50. Mint lustre gone but most of the high point detail remaines. Look at that sharp full horn as a grading point on this coin.

    Give it an acetone soak and it'll probably look better than the average consensus here.

    MS66 taste on an MS63 budget.

    Close to, but not a full strike. Better than average detail. I keep thinking AU-55 because of the chatter on the hip, but I gravitiate more to AU-58 on the whole.

    I like the coin.

    Is that PVC at the very top of the Indian's head and at the 2:00 on the reverse edge?

    I see it as a 58 with only the slightest rub. I also agree an acetone bath would help get the crud off of it. This Buff has a great strike for the date as mentioned by Pete.
