A majority of my dad’s collection over 100 pieces of bullion silver all looks like that Peace dollar slimy green. I haven’t felt like pricing out acetone by the 55-gallon drum to deal with them.
Plus, it screwed up a nice old slab!!

One thing I like about the old holders, as you know, if the coin is bright and clean, that it’s stable and it’ll stay that way, if anything bad is going to happen, it would’ve happened by now that’s one of the beauties of the old holders.

I saw a set of peace dollars in a harco coinmaster album once at a coin show that looked about like that. It made me a little nauseous.
Short term flips, Long term problems I've seen this often at auctions where the person left them in there to long and most likely in an attic or basement where they suffer the most (harsh conditions).
Reminds me of what I just went through at the LCS I work at part time. A huge collection came in all in PVC albums. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Many keys including '93s and '89cc Morgans, 09s vdb cent among others. Spend a good amount of time removing them and dipping. My fingers were disgusting and sticky after that....

Actually, once I pulled them out, they were indeed sticky, but you didn’t see a lot of green on them. Most of it stayed in the plastic luckily.

My dealer friend told me, some years ago when my Mercury Dimes were in a Coinmaster album, to take a quetip and dip in in acetone and then lightly roll it on the coin surface and the green will wick up on the quitip. Change the quitips often. Then dip the coins with acetone and they will be fine unless the PVC has started to eat into the coin surface. I was lucky with my dime set the PVC was watery. That set still looks fine and it's been 15 or more years ago.
