I think it's a strong date for a G4. Is it a 8/7?

I agree I think that took the brunt of the wear.
The bottom loop in the 8 resembles it but really need a clear closeup to confirm.

I never planned…ever to buy one of these. The kind of money I could spend would only leave the label on the holder to look at, most have barely a date and leaves the over date to your imagination. I saw this one and it was an exception.
Are you going to buy it? Looks like a decent coin assuming they aren't charging G6 or VG8 money for it.

Perhaps the coin is slightly bent, pushed in from the reverse, which could cause the center of the obverse to wear like this? That would protect the date a bit.

I am still a little suspicious that the coins is slightly less than flat, but the only was to test that would be to bust it out and see if it "rocks" while face down, and I do not recommend that you ever bust this out.
Possibly slightly bent as you suggest however just considering odds and probabilities that the coin bent in just the manner it would take to protect the several degrees out of 360 degrees is unlikely but not impossible. Regardless the price was right and there was a mix up by the seller so I’m even getting it $50 less than original price.
If bent, such should be indicated on the holder but if bent the piece shouldn't get a straight grade?
