Does PCGS automatically label an 1872 shallow N or do you need to pay for variety attribution?

You have to pay. I have gone through this with the 2 RED examples seen in Coinfacts. Both were bought unattributed and sent back for attribution and reholdering. The only ones you don't have to pay for in the Indian Cent series are the 1865 (fancy vs plain 5) and 1886 (type 1 vs type 2).
