No reason there shouldn't be an option to close your account if you want to.
Be patient and I'm sure Heather will be happy to assist you, give it a day or 2.
I agree that @hvellente should be able to close his account if he wants to and it shouldn’t matter what his reason is. He owes the forum no explanation, either. He’s been polite in the face of numerous insults. Ironically, we could use more posters like him.

I'm not sure most posters are arguing the point of whether or not someone should be able to "close" an account. Rather, most (including myself) honestly don't understand the distinction between closing an account vs simply walking away.
Even banned members live on via their past posts, and their user IDs remain in the system. They just can't make any new posts.
If "closing" an account voluntarily has the same effect, then the member can effectively implement that by simply walking away. They could also turn off all email notifications and disable their password.
But, maybe the moderators can find a way to "close" an account. But if involves software changes that might complicate things. For example, what status would the user's profile page show? 🤔
I think you mean "resign my membership" here since there is no "account" here per se. I doubt they have a mechanism to handle a membership resignation other than to just ban you. I'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish but all of your existing posts will be retained and will not be deleted.

I can understand wanting to close an account if it was facebook or something like that, but does the info ever dissappear? Unless I had something incriminating to worry about, I would just log out and delete the bookmark. But that's just me.
@hvellente ... Good luck with your endeavor... and in future activities. I will follow this thread just to see what eventually transpires. Cheers, RickO

Sort of comparing apples to oranges, but I asked my "account" to be deleted on a gun-board I used to post to back in 2017 due to the political nature of the posts. The forum became much less about firearms and, subsequently, much less fun than it was when I initially joined. That was my reasoning, but it didn't matter to the moderators Forum since it's in their terms of use that they essentially own the content after you put it on their forum... that they host...
So, I logged off that forum for a few years... I actually go back every now and again just to see who's there and to check out the Classifieds but I effectively "off" that particular Forum and my posts are in some archive...
To the OP... I'm not sure getting your account suspended/deactivated/deleted it's achievable in the way you want: I'm assuming you want all of your old posts deleted too... In any case, I wish you the best of luck...

There is a "terms of use" link at the bottom of this page. While it appears to apply to ALL of the CU affiliated websites, I assume that it is applicable here.
In the last section of the "terms of use", it lists the contacts for questions about the terms as:
If you have not attempted any of these, perhaps these fine people can help "you" to "suspend or terminate your account".
Closing out an account takes time my friend. I should know. I've been trying to close out my account with a local pest control company around here since July. No luck. The man comes around every month with his bug spray no matter how many phone calls I make to close the account. I get a bill every month for $55. I don't pay it. I tell them I'm not going to pay it. Doesn't matter. I assume complicated issues like this go through many channels before you get the results you want. It takes time...Too many bugs in the system. Be patient.....

It seems invariably that this is what happens on many forums of varied interests. The posts and replies become top-heavy with political innuendo that is not warranted. You can't take a breath these days without someone finding a way to politicize it.
Three IDU's for this post.
1. IDU why you want to(doesn't matter whether you wish to say as you started the post).
2. IDU why you can't.
3. IDU why you should be able to as well.
Just don't understand, it seems.

You really don't need a Harvard legal education to see that.
Thinking about it for a second, having terms of use that only someone with a legal education can understand would be pointless unless you're is running a message board for lawyers.
