Has anyone dealt with @guitarwes before?
He wants to buy something with a check, and is fine waiting for it to clear. Never really sold anything with a check. I’m almost certain he’s legit; but just want to verify.

Ive PM him a few times over the years he seems solid. Check clears send coins. I’d wager a smooth deal

Maybe I'm missing something but if he is o.k. with the coins being shipped until after the check clears why would there be any concern? Once the check clears it's like cash in the bank.
Maybe HE should be asking about you.... seems he is much more trusting than you are..........
How does he know you will send said merchandise?
I’ve sent plenty of goods over the years (much less years then him, but when he made his account I was a toddler sooo)
Wes has been around a long while. I have never seen anything questionable about him. I had a small transaction with him over 10 years back and he seemed to be an honest and solid guy. I would not hesitate to have another transaction with him.

If the check must clear before you ship the coin, what are you worried about? It seems all of the risk is on the buyer.

He's probably concerned about a fake check.,.there was a scam going on awhile back.
People sending checks with messed up routing or bank numbers.
The bank would cash but not be able to finalize the payment and after the seller has shipped the bank would pull the money back.
He's just being cautious.
Might I suggest a USPS money order?
But that's more work for the buyer.
Anyone that still takes out a pen and writes a check and then mails it to you would be good on my list. I'd vouch for Wes but I don't know if we have done a deal. When it clears send the coin, no problem. Kind of like cursive writing....it's a code for us seniors to keep kids from knowing what we are saying. It's old school.

Exactly what I was thinking. Some of us don't use PayPal and just want to send off a check. Probably sent it off snail mail too.
I remember when my co-worker pulled out his phone and snapped a photo of his check, then told me he sent the image to the bank and just like that it was deposited! And that was ten years ago!!!
As a business owner I used to deal in personal checks all the time. Here is a hint. Call the bank and ask for bookkeeping and then ask if the check were presented would it clear. Worked great for me and if it wouldn't clear I'd know in advance and then be able to converse with the customer, etc.

This. We've done it often. Some banks even have a dedicated phone number for this.
If the check writer is on the up and up they'll have no problem with your checking to see if it will clear.

As a rule, anyone who's been around here a while is probably trustworthy enough to ship first.
I'd be embarrassed to be the subject of a thread like this.
I can't imagine many coin collectors trashing their reputation for a single transaction 8unless it's very large. Reputation is critical in this hobby even in face to face transactions involving cash. If you don't honor your word quotes will be far higher. If you change the terms of a transactions after mutual agreement you will not be trusted and word will spread.
I would trust him and have never done a trade with him. He's been on the forum every since I remember and never a bad note about him. Plus, if you are clearing the check before shipping the coin, what's the concern?

The OP is new to me and I'm new to him. No harm in checking someone out. I would rather pay by check most times and avoid the fees via digital transaction. The OP did message me something funny though......he said he never gets checks or deals with them, but only like when he gets them from his grandma for birthdays and such. LOL. I do more than my share of online digital transactions, but I guess this threw me rapidly into the "old fart" category. No harm done.
