I just wrote another article for Mint Error News. This article is about major struck thru error coins with some great photographic examples.
Many numismatics write off struck thru error coins as minor and or junk. For those of you who think this way perhaps I can change your mind with the photography in the article

Nice article with great pictures! The Lincoln Cent with two heads appears to be a coin I used to own. Never will understand how a die cap could cause an incused non reversed image like that.
agree, neat article and coins.
for sure i'm gonna have to think about that cent since the orientation of the 2nd strike is the same as the first but incuse.
thanks for adding the mis-annealed. i have 1-2 quarters (one a washington delaware) that have that effect (but lesser) that i was up until now considering just roller lines from the stock but they are not the same as we usually see. harder for me to capture appropriately in an image as well.
the split capped die is one ugly error BUT once one knows just what it is that caused it, imo, it becomes quite interesting!

Yes indeed, Struck thru cloth has always and still is my favorite type of struck thru error.
Probably why I have 22 (soon the be 23) examples of struck thru cloth ...

I just imaged this new coin I received recently.
1964 Struck thru Reeding Kennedy Silver Half Dollar.
I love struck through errors. I won't pay a premium for them, but they bring extra interest for me and I love hunting for them. Here's a few I currently own. My favorite is this 1883-CC GSA Morgan that has a strike through on the obverse. I didn't think I would find a GSA with an mint error.
The strike through on this one looks a bit like a knife. I love that it's right on the date.
Here's an 1885-O Morgan that if it weren't cleaned would be a stunner. It was struck through sawdust with freshly polished dies. The fields are DMPL and the small craters from the sawdust make it look like the surface of the moon. I think a previous owner thought they could wipe off the pitting. Thankfully it's not too noticeable.

For what it's worth the GSA is a planchet flaw.

As I have previously stated on a related thread regarding struck- thru error coins, both services (PCGS and NGC) need to describe the type of struck-thru more accurately, instead of just saying struck- thru…
OUCH! A little too descriptive for me.
Interesting. I assumed a strike through piece of wood or something. Wouldn't there be some peeling on the edges if it were say a peeled lamination? I've seen a bunch of those. This one has very clean edges and no sign of the U in the area of the void. I certainly not saying you are wrong and I am right. I'm going to take a better look at it later this evening. Thank you.
I have a 1966 Kennedy half dollar that all PCGS stated on the label is "Planchet - UNC Details (second line) SMS- Strk thru Obv / Rev" and before the cert number they have .93/
Still trying to determine what the struck thru was. Sorry for the poor pictures, this is the widest field of view my camera is set up to do.
yes that is a struck thru error.
It is always best to show a photo of the whole coin.

This looks like glue stuck to the cent. A soak in acetone should help remove the glue.
Hello, there are so many experts here on the issue of mint errors... maybe you can help me understand the case of this coin... It is not off metal because there are double minting marks, so it is either a double die or a double rim... maybe someone knows what the differences are?
And this part on the edge... it is clearly visible, along these two errors left, that the edge bending was done at the mint.
