Branding Your Collection

Coin World article (publish 6 years ago) on branding your collection.
https://coinweek.com/opinion/coin-pedigrees-provenance-branding-collection/
Interesting article on "establishing a hobby exit strategy" with the following listed items.
- Be a specialized collector
- Write a book
- Build a website
- Set Registery: Yes or No?
- Branding your collection with personal PCGS and NGC labels
- Pedigree/Provenance
Do you agree or disagree with these six items?
Do you know of other items that should be added to this list?
How many of these listed items have you fully or partially completed?

When I see a “branded” slab I think it detracts from the coin presentation unless it’s from a famous historical collection like Eliasburg. I’m not vain enough to think my coins are special.
"Got a flaming heart, can't get my fill"
if the collection was by a famous collector then yes i can see branding the collection
but for the everyday collector i'm not seeing the reason to make such a foolish move

If reputation or “exit strategy” are the biggest concern, then it sounds like a good idea.
For most collectors, who are in the hobby for fun and enjoyment, these are completely unnecessary.
And I say this knowing that we all have a personal “brand”, especially online, whether we thoughtfully and intentionally build one or not.
My thoughts:
Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

There is one current branded slab that I would pay less for as the first thing on my list would be a reholder to get it out of that branded holder, seldom is this a wise move unless you are well known and popular.

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
OMG, this isn't very polite of me to write, but the entire article and premise is a boatload of keyword BS!

How you've conducted yourself while actively building your collection will establish what your brand is worth. If you're collecting to make yourself a famous collector, that will be what your "brand" means.

When I thought of "branding", it was applying some form of mark on the slab itself. Shows you what I know.

I collect Late Date Large Cents. The provenance of a coin is important to me. If it was good enough for Naftzger or Robbie Brown then it is surely worthy of a place in my collection. I have the auction catalogues as well with the descriptions and even more detailed provenance. I am considering buying an 1848 in a PCGS Naftzger collection holder. The kicker is the provenance of the coin goes back to Henry Hines. I read about Hines life and collection on the Newman Numismatic Portal..a truly valuable resource. When it comes time to sell the coin its story should add value. Having a flashy custom holder for every coin your deep pockets can afford in my opinion adds nothing to the coin or its story.
.
I kinda search out these.

How about a "Zoid Collection" ANACS slab?

I have never been interested in collector provenance. I surely have no interest in 'branding' my coins. I just collect what I like, and someday, someone else will have them. Cheers, RickO
Some old timers may recall that back in the day PCGS would “pedigree” your set when it was 95% done or # 1? And I also think they did it for free? That’s why today you see many unknown pedigrees in PCGS holders. So Just when I reached that milestone and was going to send in my set, the rules changed. Needless to say, I was ticked about this and that’s when I wanted to make a point that sure; my coins are not attributed to some old famous collector but they are important to me. And that is when I protested by putting the word Pedigree after every one of my sets. Yep, just my own little protest still happening to this day. You don’t need someone else’s approval to consider your collection a pedigree and most of you have started each coin on the road to provenance because its important to you and that’s all that matters. In fact, I think too many sets are not given enough credit for being the outstanding collections and collectors that they are because many have poured years, heart, soul, and money into many collections that will not be number 1, but are just as impressive because they were sought, carefully compiled, waited with patience to procure only after searching for just the right example and not just because they had a wad of cash to buy whatever comes along. And so with that my exit strategy which is not on that list is to pass on my collection to my son because he knows it’s worth keeping.
I like “Coins from the Zoid” better 👍
It's all about what the people want...
.
That would create a plastic shortage and grading fees would triple....not to mention shutting the USPS down.....
.
.
That would be highly inaccurate as well. Coins occupy probably less than 5% of my collection (being optimistic here).
It probably needs to be something like "The Zoid Exo-Junkie Hoard" . . . . . .

A coin should speak for itself in terms of art, history and design as well as state of preservation. Sharing images taken by our host photography team and having a registry set merely illustrates what is possible. I see a distinct line between branding and trying to share what may perhaps help others in their search to find what may appeal to them.
