Lucky coin story.
In Mexico, poor as hell; I found a 1957 twenty-five centavo coin that would get me on a bus and save forty blocks of walk. I played with the date as I rode the bus.
1 + 9 + 5 + 7 = 22
2 + 2 = 4
I needed five numbers for the daily lottery; my number would be 19574.
I saw a sheet of that ticket number hanging from the kiosk when I stepped from the bus. I cashed in a travelers’ check and bought a ticket. I won 20,000 pesos that night. In 1972 that was a lot of bucks for a student. The jinx will come off that coin.
