PNNA Tukwilla show report October 2022

Set up at the show this weekend - very well run show. The volunteers are great, the hospitality suite more than adequate!
During dealer set up, had a chance to visit many of the tables. Missed out on a early ANACS piece that sold quickly, a 1916 25c piece. There's another on the floor with a 1916-D dime - may go back tomorrow and check it out again.
There were a lot of sample and luncheon slabs on the floor - all of them in my case.
Was able to buy a few Buffalo nickels from a forum member who was kind enough to offer them to me before the show (unnamed as I didn't get his permission). Had a nice chat with Airplanenut, 2windy2fish and Charmy. Looking forward to seeing a few more forum members this weekend. If you're on the bourse, please stop by and say hello.
There were a few people that were a delight to chat with - I hope they are back tomorrow!
More later .....

@Lakesammman... Thanks for the report. Wish I could be there. Cheers, RickO
2nd day of the show.
Had a chance to catch up with Swampboy - always nice to see him.
Was able to buy some US Silver for a decent price. Seemed like activity was good around the bourse until 3pm.
Numerous YN's were on the floor participating in a treasure hunt. Lots of happy smiles as they got their prizes. Dealers seemed genuinely happy to be chatting with the kids and quizzing them.
Prices for generic gold have been pretty strong - not seeing many sell. Seeing prices for $20's in 63 that are $300-400 more than I can buy it for on line! Guess people are going to hang onto it until prices climb back to the $2000 range.
Have tried to bring something different each day as a conversation starter - today it was the 1946 Oregon Numismatic Society obverse die and several DC coins made from them - lot's of lookers.
The show wraps up tomorrow - come by and say hello, if you haven't already!
Thanks for your report.
Thanks for the show report. I wish dealers in my area brought Dan Carr items. Even the ANA was a bust for his tokens. I have yet to ever see one of his gold offerings at a show.

Thanks for taking the time to write a report.
Great seeing you Saturday Lakes.
It was a fun show even if I didn't find the $10 Indian I was on the hunt for

Decided to go golfing this AM, putting me at the show around noon. Made $10 golfing, fortunately did better at the show.
Traffic was on the slow side. Was able to sell a little bullion and a nice NGC $10 with a gold CAC. Had a nice chat with a YN and his Dad - said he was collecting cents. I showed him a PCGS P69DCAM Lincoln and I could tell he was hooked - it set him back $7! You can't even certify a coin for that little!
Found a nice Hawaiian 50c, PCGS 64+ CAC but after comparing it to mine, decided I liked mine better. Just wish I could find a nice Hawaii $1 in PC-64.
One of the highlights of the show was the food truck!
They put out some really nice panini sandwiches for a lower than normal coin show price. And, still no mustard on the shirt .......
Was hoping to see Charmy today - she was going wine tasting yesterday in WA for the 1st time - wanted to see what her impression of WA wine was. Didn't have high expectations as they were going to one of the bulk producers .....
My overall impression is that, while having a good time, I can do better financially spending 3 days reading x-rays!

The show was a big success for me, sales were very good .
@Lakesammman enjoyed seeing your eclectic holder collection! However, i gotta say i wish i had known beforehand how important the offbeat holder collector base was, as i cringe to think of the coins i have “extricated” from so many low pop, offbeat, plastic flips over the years without regard to collect ability…Now i know!
Surely hope there weren’t too many” Honeydos” awaiting you at home…
Thanks for the super report.
Would have loved to see you all, and I came close!
Sorry I missed you. :-(

I have a question, and thought that perhaps this was the place to ask it.
I went to the show Friday morning, paying the $30 for "early bird" look. Frankly, I was disappointed to have done so, since most vendors did not set up for hours after that.
Be that as it may, I was surprised to learn that essentially nobody took credit cards. I certainly understand the concept of charging the 3% if one used a credit card, but I went there (fruitlessly, it turned out) looking for some hard-to-get Walkers, and I wasn't going to have several thousand dollars of cash in my pocket. I didn't find any that I would have bought, but I was surprised.
Also, I found prices to be higher than I expected on a few raw coins I was interested in. So I passed on them. But I am curious if vendors listen politely to offers significantly (like 10-20%) lower than the asking price; I didn't want to insult anyone, so I didn't ask there, but I am curious in case I go to another show sometime.
Thanks!
The Early Bird can be hit or miss at any show.
Many dealers take "set up" time to mean look at other dealers inventory and hash out deals, spontaneously or pre-arranged. It takes me 15 minutes to set up, so I don't need the 3 hrs allotted.
When I buy an early bird pass to the ANA or FUN show, it's typically to see my favorite dealers before they get distracted by the public, submit coins to PCGS, etc. After that, I'll start checking out the few dealers that are set up, if there's time left.
With regards to making offers, I wouldn't hesitate if the market is soft. If strong, just step up and buy! Offers never bother me just so long as it is polite, well reasoned and doesn't turn ugly. Any idiot can pay full retail.
It was nice to see you at the show @Lakesammman, I really enjoyed your display. Glad to hear you found a few items at the show. I came home with very little, just didn't speak to me or I thought it was over priced. I've been coming to this show for years and always enjoy it. Any day at a coin show beats a day at work, especially when you still get paid.
Understand your hesitancy, but cash is king followed by a check with references (they may hold the coin until it clears without). It is also helpful to have done some research about your coin targets so you have a general feel for value. Then it comes down to how badly you want the coin and a little friendly negotiation. It's okay if you don't come to an agreement. There are other fish in the sea that will eventually be encountered.

Nice report — glad you had fun and still managed some golf. Sorry I couldn’t make it this time around. 😎
Thanks!
Yeah, with my list of coins I'm looking for, I have Greysheet value in the grades I'm looking for, and I feel pretty good about my ability to judge grade for those coins. So I know how much, roughly, they should cost. But the problem with raw coins, of course, is the subjectivity of condition (yes, I know that there is some of that with graded coins, but much, much less uncertainty); so, just because a price of $X is attached to a coin labeled as "AU," and $X is a fair price of a problem-free AU coin of that type/year/mintmark, doesn't mean that I'm happy to pay that, because I may not agree with the grade.
Now that I know that custom includes some haggling, I'm perfectly capable of a friendly negotiation, which may or may not result in a deal.
Thanks again.
Mark
If you're particular about the condition of the coins you're looking for, you might find it difficult to find sellers who are interested in negotiating discounts from greysheet prices.
