Not counterfeit but a silver round with an attempt of copying a Morgan...I actually thought it wasn't half bad but I recall some people thinking it was fairly ugly (it's still 1 oz of silver though).

No pictures, but while at ANACS I saw a 1914-D cent where the date was altered from a 1944, and THEN the mint mark was added, ABOVE THE DATE!

Let's see your worse counterfeits!well, i regret to inform that the deplorable quality part of my archives did not survive. there was some absolutely idiotic stuff imaged too. it was like the counterfeiters only got to see the images once or twice and then just spent the next 20-30 years doing it from memory, very badly.
not sure i can come up with much else that makes much sense w/o calling them mentally handicapped. THANKFULLY. it is hard enough these days now.

Have had my tryst with quite a few from eBay.
I knew the Oregon trail was fake but picked it up very cheap nevertheless, to teach my kid.
The following was also a clear fake which I decided to return back later because of getting much better looking copies.
Retained the following Trade dollars for "education" sake.
The following two were listings that I had reported and got taken them down because there were no such coins ever minted.

Lance.as i think about it, i'm kinda surprised there aren't more pre-morgan dollar period counterfeits out there (publicly known) considering the monetary gain potential. it sure didn't stop them from trying on the morgans considering how many i've seen. probably a few hundred at this point and that is just a mediocre effort on my part.
how or why they used the date on that type is pretty interesting. someone with enough know how but not enough numis-knowledge? perhaps they did it just for fun?
surely going through all that trouble, there would be a few hundred from a set of dies, if they could afford that much silver at any given time?
be interesting to see the scanned metal content.
i'll guess it is a half but could easily be a dollar.
