    OP's listing of the newsprint bothers me in that the newspaper gave out her address and lawyer's name to the public. Could that ever be considered a legitimate thing for the press to do?

    I don't get it, coin/stamp collecting is mostly a "stay home hobby" what is the wife complaining about, the husband stays home too much? Have they never heard of a "Golf-Widow"?

    Read the newspaper clipping in the opening post. Her husband is out of work and plays with his stamps instead of looking for a job.

    Yeah the unemployed part was understandable, but "cold and lazy" was the salt on the rim! Would have been interesting to hear his description of the divorce too. Guess the both of them are still ignoring each other in the afterlife, haha!

    My lovely wife does not complain about any of my hobbies/interests. She does not collect coins, very little interest in firearms. She was amazed at my marble collection. These interests keep me young and home (for the most part). ;) Cheers, RickO

    Yes, I'm a decades long coin collector but....my talented wife is a decades long quilter, who has amassed fabric that resulted in me erecting a 10'x12' outbuilding to house her inventory. She organized her fabric by color palette hues and print pattern types. We compliment each other with our "diseases". Peace Roy

    My ex thought coin collecting was a "nerdy" hobby and didn't understand the fascination. Even when I had to sell off parts of my collection to satisfy unexpected expenses (instead of running up credit cards) the notion of a relatively liquid tangible asset was lost on her. Fast forward to now... new GF is very supportive of my hobby and wouldn't mind tagging along to a show or two just to see what it's all about. I don't think she's going to start a collection of her own anytime soon... she's into Ballet and all the stuff to support that... but we're very supportive of each others avocational endeavors. :smile:

    If I'm reading right, he was unemployed for all of 40 days. Seems like she was a bit hasty to go all in with the divorce. I know people who haven't worked since 2020.

    Did you read the part where he wasn't even looking for a job? Back then, the government didn't pay people to not work with welfare, unemployment, Medicaid, food stamps, etc.

    My wife of 37 years doesn't care what I collect as long as she can buy whatever she wants (within reason). I try to invest in many different things. About 10 years ago I started buying diamond jewerly from a pawn shop at discounted prices and the wife said she didnt like what i was buying. That only lasted about 2-3 months and then she started wearing everything. Suddenly she loved all the stuff i bought. Then I got smart and stopped buying jewerly. As long as she's happy I can collect anything I want.

    I buy many of the stamp collections that are brought into the local coin shops in this area. The shop owners don't know much about stamps, so they call me to come in to make offers directly to the sellers. Almost all of it is junk. Once in a great while there might be a stamp worth $10 or $20. Usually, the only value (if any) is in the unused US postage which typically sells at a steep discount to face value (but I can use it for my numerous mailings). I did find the newspaper clipping pictured at the beginning of this thread in one of the collections. The one and only collection that had multiple better items was one of the smallest. Apparently, it had been donated to a church and it had been sitting in the church's safe for a decade or so. A church administrator finally decided to sell the stamps, so they brought them to a local coin shop and the coin shop called me. There were only a few items, but if you know stamps you will recognize what I am writing about here. It had plate blocks of the first six US Airmail Stamps (C1-C6). Also there were plate blocks of the $2 Capitol (# 572) and $5 "America" (# 573). Also some other stuff.

    Anyway, the other day I had given my wife a "chore" that she could do at her leisure while sitting on the couch watching TV. The task was to separate and sort numerous quantities of worthless cancelled stamps so that I could use them in an art project. She told me: "I'm sure glad you collect coins and not stamps".
