I was breaking down a very nice album of Mercury Dimes. This was not the typical circulated-to-death set. A lot of nice dimes wound up living in this early Whitman Classic Album. I have sent many of them off to grading, but as I was going through the rest I saw this and had to take a closer look. So fellow Numismatists, what have we here?

    massive strike/ejection doubling. probably the strongest i've seen on a merc by quite a bit.

    edited to add, is there doubling on any legend letters?

    I agree with the prior posts. Unfortunately, it doesn't have any additional value. Neat coin though.

    While I agree with the rest regarding MD, I think it is a very neat example to have to show and tell upon the occasion. Keep it and mark it as such.

    I picked up a mercury dime set years ago.
    Lots of slicks but the album was full..
    It had serious water damage on the blue Whitman folder.
    Was part of someone's collection that one of the kids ended up with.
    This was some of the last folders that the kid had.
    If I recall I paid $60.
    I plucked the dimes out and really didn't like them over to close.
    Someday I'll revisit the plastic tube and investigate them.

    Now that is a very interesting example of extreme machine doubling. First case I have seen of that magnitude. I would surely keep that one in a special holder. Cheers, RickO
