USPS is on Fire!

My wife turned to me this morning and said, "you have six packages arriving today!" To which I responded, "that's not possible."
I've been a frequent and vocal critic of US Post Office in the past so I want to recognize their superb service of late. There was another thread on a related subject last week in which I mentioned my two coast to coast shipments to CAC arrived in one and two business days respectively.
Turns out that was no fluke.
Here are the source and destination locations of my inbound packages. Please note, the majority of these are First Class mail and shipped from considerable distances. I'm impressed:

Hey ex-neighbor - I just returned from East Bay Coffee. Does that bring back any memories?
Tim
Yes they are 😉🙀🦫

Great balls of fire, nice kitty😎
All the bad service followed by complaints on many levels has improved the services they provide generally. The postmaster has been on the hot seat.
They are roasting the Postmaster because of his stance on electric vehicles. Gentlemen seems to think gas is the way to go. Maybe 50 years ago but not for the future. 😉🙀🦫

I have a 1921 peace that is now in Atlanta for the 4th time, so put me in the "set them on fire" camp. They are playing cross country football with Portland over it.
Sorry to hear. What is the USPS service used?
Tim
No clue but my guess would be first class. It has been bouncing around since 8/3. The tracking info has to be scrolled through.
They need the trucks now not 10 years from now. Postal infrastructure is set up for ICEs.
For non-automotive enthusiasts ICE's = Internal Combustion Engines.
Tim
History will show EVs to not be so green friendly.
What is the source of the electricity to recharge?
How much engine combustion was used to mine, transport and process the needed raw materials?
Where ya gonna bury that big worn out battery?

I have to agree, pointfivezero. I just received two Ebay purchases that I made on Monday from a seller in Pennsylvania. Two day delivery via First Class.
He should be.
USPS can be top notch................but only sometimes.
I went to the mailbox today and found my neighbors mail in it. No sign of where mine went.
I took the mail next door.
Funny, you know. I retired from USPS and still find myself delivering mail.
What a nightmare!!!
Pete
Looks like they are on fire more often than you might think

I guess the customer didn't get any mail that day, and decided that calling the USPS to complain to a moron supervisor would do no good.

I have a package that Heritage shipped last Wednesday and I still don’t have it. Maybe Friday based on current tracking?

That’s a ridiculous answer. The new trucks aren’t being delivered tomorrow.
There down the road a ways and the future is electric. Read up and I believe you will find these are coming years from now.
The only people advocating for gas probably own zBig oil stock. 😉🙀🦫

that is pretty much what i see when i feed one of the local strays whom i've appropriately named "evil b##*#& reincarnate!"
the only one of the bunch to make me had bled on several occasions but after seeing her attack all of her companions at one time or another, or even multiple times, simply for the egregious act of brushing up against her, i've learned to keep my distance.
i honestly think she is part of a bloodline around here with a cat mental disability because seriously, they are all kinda off.
if only i had a video rolling the first time i threw out a string with a light toy at the end. i never felt so stupid after a cat looked at me. had to teach them virtually everything. none of them have really meowed out of the dozens of dozens of times they've come around or followed me in the house. make no mistake though, no matter what i do, they will go ballistic if i close the door behind me with them inside. i digress and i have plenty to digress with them, sheesh.
only just recently using a long knobby/scratchy stick (4 feet?) have i taught sphynxie cat that i'm not going to eat her and that me petting or combing is a pleasure she has only been denying herself. lol she just got jealous and felt stupid one day while i was petting the others and she just jumped right into the mix much to my surprise.
almost all of them are midnight black with BIG green eyes. the one from the bloodline (all left clipped ears) that isn't black is a bit more timid and has received MUCH lovings from me, she graduated from ms. skittish to ms. skittles once she saw i wasn't going to eat her either.
we need some good cat acronyms. (c.a.t. = crazy as xxxxx or crazy ass xxxxx)
@pointfivezero - my recent shipment came from CA to midwest in 2 or 2.5 days. i agree about them being on fire as i haven't really bought much but i've sent out quite a few and i do check the tracking and they are getting where they are going fast. streamline the system, purge the lazy and crazy a-holes and thieves and the system will run smoothly.
They are just making the deliveries look good now so they can justify the raising of postage rates in October....

Could be worse. Lots of us who have never worked for the USPS are quite familiar with delivering mail.
Also, the tires are still petroleum based, as are most of the plastic components. We still mine metals, right? Not many electric earth movers out there to dig in the mines.
.
question everything...
it is nice to see people thinking/talking like this.
a lot more to say but this isn't the place.
We still mine metals, right? Not many electric earth movers out there to dig in the mines.
Well actually most mining equipment from small drills to the extremely large trucks and shovels up to the Immense bucket wheels are all electric. (Even though it takes a variety of fossil fueled electric suppliers) Health and cost wise diesel fueled equipment is just not practical in the minig industry..........But back to the USPS raising their game lately.........
My eBay customers have been leaving positive feedbacks with FAST shipping being noted lately!

Postal service leases all their vehicles and lease all their post office locations. They own nothing, they have no assets, they just deliver the mail & your packages.
Not true, LindyS. The USPS leases a lot of "contract stations", but a lot of the Main Post Office buildings in cities were built with government funds for the then Post Office Department,
The building I worked in was built in 1934 exclusively for the Post Office with Government Offices included (Like Selective Service AKA the Draft Board) having offices in the building.
The USPS vehicle burning in the pictures was a big order by the USPS in the 1990's called an LLV (Long Life Vehicle).
They were anti rust, made of aluminum, and made for the long haul. They are USPS owned.
Yep, we had a lot of lease vehicles during my employment, We leased Pintos, Gremlins, Novas, and other small Chevy products for delivery.
I know this is off subject, but it has to be documented,
Pete
WOW
i understand an expert analysis would reveal as to why this is vs owning their own but after all the hub-bub, i gotta say, after working in property ownership/management for myself and others, there is a reason why it is wise to own in lieu to rent because after some time, you own and are free of that debt although it comes with a lot of maintenance costs/effort and after a lengthy conversation with lots of details, i really can't imagine ever telling anyone to NOT pay off a home or business location (VERY few exceptions) especially for the long-term. maybe there are subsidies/grants/tax breaks etc for the postal service but it has always baffled me how some businesses in business for the long run decades or more in the same location never buy and pay off. i'll stop here.
there were some tenants that rented literally the same place for 1, 2 even 3 decades and i know property owners that are decent people and would do contracts for those that had the wherewithall to work the same job(s) long enough to pay regularly for extended periods (or people with retirement income/disability/ssi etc) that would turn down the offer to start purchasing (there can be unexpected expensive expenses of course) BUT we all get older, crap happens etc so is why it baffles me because EVENTUALLY if the car/home etc is paid off, that can be a major influx of cash or a person's opportunity to take it a little easier but these people (i somewhat pity them) work regularly long enough to pay off a home, even if just a cheap one (nothing like owning a home free and clear) only to find themselves in literally the same boat as day 1, except they are now older and own nothing and paid off the property owner's mortgage for them. (property management is a rough business, especially in the era of c19) i used to encourage some to consider buying til i was blue in the face but the fear of the unknown/paradimes/life scripts or whatever just holds some back and there were some people even at my ripe old age of 28-33, whom i would have probably teared up to have seen them accept even a contract to purchase and get say 1/2, 3/4 of the way through, perhaps refi, get a lower payment etc and then accelerate the pay off. what can ya do? (i know there are some SOMEWHAT legit reasons not to own but i can barely be convinced) perhaps the very elderly or handicapped etc.
semi-rant over.
I've been impressed recently too. I've gotten checks for shipments in seven days! No long lines at the PO either.
They've really fixed their problems with all the damaged packages. It used to be very common and now quite unusual. The last damaged one was so well packaged that even though it was nearly speared there was no damage to the contents.
Now if they could just quit raising the rates they'd be perfect.
I can agree with the USPS being on the ball. My registered package to CAC arrived within a week. The submission has been at CAC for three weeks, although they have been closed this week for vacation. 😏

The last trip back to GA for my 21 peace it got 7 scans, all from differently labeled atlanta locations. (atlanta peachtree, atlanta north metro, etc etc)
I’ve noticed a general increase in package delivery times. Typically 1-2 days earlier than the first prediction.
I have been very happy with USPS operations. Good delivery time and what I have shipped has been timely as quoted and without issues. As far as electric vehicles, the current state of technology is a suckers bet. Incredible cost to manufacture (all driven by fossil fuel), short life, disposal has yet to be satisfactorily devised... Recharging the batteries is done by fossil fuel sources. As @derryb said, reality is far different than the starry eyed beliefs of those who do no research. Cheers, RickO
I was shocked to discover the same thing this week- won an eBay auction on Sunday, it arrived Wednesday, rather than the Saturday expected. Now that's customer service!
"Recharging the batteries is done by fossil fuel sources".
Someone else finally realized the above fact.
Way to go Rick "O".
