1976 error quarter

Back in the day when I worked as a bank teller I would save odd things that I found.
Here is one. Can anyone tell me what kind of error this is? Does it have value? I would like to know so I can mark it down on the coin holder.
I also have a 1979 quarter with a flat rim. It does not have the grooves.

Is the mess on the reverse indented? If so, it looks like a massive struck through.

Nice struck thru error coin.
Strike Through error. great now I know what it is but what / how does this occur. I looked at a few strike through errors on ebay but I cannot see the error for some reason.

An interesting strike through (I don't want to particularly speculate as thru what exactly), especially on a bicentennial.

Each struck through is essentially unique (occassionally there is a run of nearly identical ones).
"Something" gets in between the die and the planchet. There is no where for it to go except to be impressed into the surface.
Occassionally the object or substance is retained (stays there) but more often it falls or wipes away, or sticks to the die.
Your struck through seems to be from something substantial - much nicer than the usual smear of grease or small fiber.
Definitely looks like a large struck through..... It will have some premium to error collectors, so having it slabbed would be a good idea. Cheers, RickO
Never thought of having it slabbed. maybe this will be my first slabbed coin. I assume PCGS? I guess I will need to read their web site to see if I need to be a member and find out what I need to do.
