It was just an example. Also to show that the interest on the lump sum payout would not be 6 figures per day even at a 5% guaranteed return. Even a 1% return would generate more income than most people will ever need. Fortunately, now is a very opportune time to get into the market.
Well, maybe I'm just being impractical or argumentative, but you don't just put $400 million into a bank account or CD.
It's likely a good time to enter the market, but nobody really knows for sure. The S&P 500 has averaged a 10.5% return since it's inception in 1957. $400,000,000 x 0.105 / 365 = $115,000 per day. A really good portfolio of this size would include dozens or even hundreds of investments, many of which aren't exactly available to the average Joe. An average annual return of less than 12% on this kind of money would be pretty disappointing in my mind.

...next coin I'm looking at for my 7070 type set... 1859 IHC in ~AU50-ish.
Only, I'd likely not get outbid... lol...
would that be a nuclear bid?
lol... yes. In spite of what I posted on a different thread... if I had hit Mega Millions for $1.28B, putting in a $500 bid on a $100 coin doesn't seem too extravagant...

Screw coins I would open an animal sanctuary.
I'd still collect coins, but I'd probably opt for a STEM Educational foundation with that amount of money...
Why? STEM already gets all the attention. Speaking as a liberal arts major (history/political science) not everyone is cut out for those sexy trendy STEM/pre-med/pre-law majors, and that's okay! Give the ones in liberal arts majors some love!

Certain areas of STEM get all the attention... I've been in Medical Laboratory Science for going on 40 years. I've been trying to tell students that you can work in a hospital, have direct impact on patient care, and not be a doctor or a nurse. Our profession is currently understaffed by ~10% (in Microbiology) with about 17% of the workforce due to retire in the next five years. If you don't like waiting on Lab Results, we need to promote MLS careers!

Though apparently no matter what you want to be (even a coin collector!) you do have to know at least some math!

I had a friend that got $860,000 cash after taxes, 4 years later he was broke and in prison.
I actually find that to be totally believable.
The guy who won what was at the time the largest lottery ever paid had his life continuously wrecked. Deaths, granddaughter overdosed, I think he did some jail time, etc.
Just added my first, and likely to be only, such coin. At $3,250, this is the most expensive single coin I have owned in 46 years of collecting. I wanted one of the Twelve Caesars in gold, so Nero spoke to me.
Now if I ever won a multimillion-dollar lottery (which I won't, because the only lotto I play is the occasional $1 scratchoff), I would collect the rest of the Twelve Caesars in gold, and go on to add as many of the other emperors and empresses as I could, particularly tough, short-lived rulers like Pertinax, et al.
If I were rich like that, I'd also collect them in higher grade than this humble Fine.
But I'd feel guilty spending so much on coins, and would have to make sure a sizable chunk of my windfall went to charity.

Hi guys, you may have heard someone won in my home state, Illinois.
Well, NO, it's not me! Impossible, I didn't buy a single ticket, I don't gamble. Lol
Imagine what kind of coin collection that person can have?
What kind of coins would you purchase?
I would hunt down all the top PCGS grades of the Morgan Dollars, esp the CC's!
Says the guy who spends half his time driving to and from the bank, and the other half his time searching the rolls that he gets there.
At least he CAN drive to and from banks! I don't/can't drive nor afford to have a vehicle so all I get is a couple banks/credit unions that happen to be real close by that almost never seem to have any half dollar rolls... I would love so so so so so much to get to CRH half dollar rolls at face value...
