REVEALED: GTG 1911-D (?) Indian $2-1/2 gold

This may be an exercise in futility given my poor numismatic photography skills.

I got this quarter eagle with a bunch of $2-1/2 and $5 gold Indians last year. It was in a 2x2 cardboard holder labeled "1911."

Fast forward seven or eight months, and when I'm sorting these coins I take a closer look and notice what appears to a "D" mintmark.

So I sent it off to our gracious host and received it back recently.

So this should be clue with regard to our host's opinion on the coin's authenticity... they put it in a slab.

What do you think it graded?

Not a gold collector but looks real to me. I'd say a slider MS 60 coin.

It may be the weak D variety. Was this indicated on the slab? I think it is. There is one on Great Collections in the next week or two. Take a look for comparison. I'd say a 60. If weak D, good score.

It's not the weak D based on the pic provided by the OP.

Definitely genuine, Weak D variety... and I'd call it a 58 due to the flat area on the cheek.
***Edit after scrutinizing OP's pics to change my opinion to the Strong D variety.

Yes, cheek detracts. I'll agree with MS 58.

The more I look at the close up of the reverse, the more I th9ink it is the weak D variety. Please let us know what is on the slab.

    Thanks

With regard to which mintmark variety, I strongly ;) suggest taking a look at the True Views.

I'll reveal the grade tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, July 9.

    AU55

PCGS CoinFacts has pics of both the strong and the weak D mintmark. The weak D is a barely perceptible ghost of a D. I still maintain the OP's coin is the strong D variety.

AU53 Here, Coin looks a little more roughed up than people are seeing here. Lots of flatness on the headdress feathers

Also wondering why the coloring is a touch lighter around the mint mark area, any possibility this was in a ring?

Weird stuff going on around the legend on reverse.

53 at best. I'm almost more inclined to say AU Details.

Several of you were very close.
