Ummm, the 1812 Overture celebrates RUSSIAN victory. It may not be the most appropriate song to be posting for THIS 4th of July. There are plenty of good Sousa songs...

Once you've seen (even on TV) the Boston Pops perform it with cannons in the background and fireworks above, you might have a different perspective.

They always play the 1812 overture at the Boston 4th of July fireworks. Its great lying on a blanket at the edge of the Charles River watching the fireworks and listening to the Boston Pops. Traffic afterwards not so good. I suggest parking 3 miles away and walking.

Actually I grew up in the Boston area, and, via an aunt who was a major fundraiser for the Pops, got to meet Arthur Fiedler, and, over time, many of the musicians of the Pops in the post Fiedler era AT HER HOME, where they would do events SPECIFICALLY for her and my uncle. Needless to say, I've seen the Pops play on the 4th by the Charles multiple times, and have enjoyed it.

I still stand by my statement. Trust me, the Pops CAN play Sousa well.

Here are some Independence Day-related bits of metal. I saw some fireworks shoot off sideways at a neighborhood firework show last night, and I'll just say that several toddlers hate fireworks now...

Just cooked carne asada on the grill. Made fresh guacamole and have fresh cilantro.

Bought tortillas at the local tortilla factory that were fresh made today along with rice and beans.

    Got to go eat :p
