Was bid up to $1525.00 before going poof...

A couple of key "attribution points":

Bidders obviously didn't try to attribute the variety before bidding B) ...

    It makes you wonder why anyone would ever consider bidding that amount on a raw dollar type that is known to be a favorite of counterfeiters.

    This example in particular is an easy to spot counterfeit, even without the diagnostics. But there are certainly other counterfeits where your statement is correct.
