It makes you wonder why anyone would ever consider bidding that amount on a raw dollar type that is known to be a favorite of counterfeiters.
No reason to wonder. They'd do it because they're unknowledgeable and thinking/hoping they'd be getting a bargain.

This example in particular is an easy to spot counterfeit, even without the diagnostics. But there are certainly other counterfeits where your statement is correct.
